LANG DULAY
-
BORN: August 3, 1928
-
DIED: April 30, 2015
-
known as “ T’boli princess” in Lake sebu region in South Cotabato
She learnt her weaving skills from her mother, Luan Seing at the age of 12. Lang Dulay is familiar with a hundred different styles, some of these are based on her dreams which describes as “Dreamweaver”. Each one is unique due to the tales it conveys, such as the bulinglangit (clouds), bankiring (hair bangs), and kabangi (butterfly). She gracefully spins her stories using red and black colors. The knowledge and vision of her people are reflected in her textiles. She had always wished that one day she might share her gift and talents with the young people in her community. Four of her grandchildren have picked up the tradition and are starting to learn how to weave.
Lang Dulay cried happy tears when she realized she was being considered as one of the Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan awards. She pictured the institution she wished to create—a place where the local women could practice their artistic skills.
