LANG DULAY | THE DREAMWEAVER
As the Philippines tries to keep up with the rest of the world's evolving and digital technology developments, tribes in different regions have been continuously drawn to modern lifestyles, however, some of them, like Lang Dulay, have remained firm in preserving their traditions.
T'NALAK WEAVING
Her artworks depict the lives of the T'boli people who reside in South Cotabato near Lake Sebu. Her patterns are influenced by the history of her people and are created on a canvas made of beautiful Abaca fibers woven into T'nalak cloth.
CULTURAL PRESERVATION
She has contributed to the preservation of her tribe's culture by weaving the history and identity of her people into each piece of T'nalak clothing. When President Fidel Ramos was in office in 1998, she was designated as a National Living Treasure (Manlilikha ng Bayan).
Nelly Dillera, the regional director for the Department of Tourism, claims that Lang Dulay's work popularized T'boli culture and their crafts, which are now produced as a variety of clothing and home accessories. Journalists, fashion designers, and tourists from all over the world have visited her weaving facility, which she used to teach weaving to new generations.
